Jyotirlinga Guide

The 12 jyotirlingas, list with states and order

The traditional order runs Somnath to Grishneshwar. This page is the one-screen version: where each temple is, which state and region it falls in, when it is open, and the railhead you actually get off at. The region column uses the groups this site plans trips with, not a government division.

Where a railhead name carries a code in brackets, a temple trust or a state source stated that code. Names without a bracket are the ones this site has not yet matched to an official Indian Railways code, and no code is printed for them rather than a guess.

Each pin opens that temple's guide. The interactive map zooms in on any of them.

Numbers are each temple's place in the Dwadasha Jyotirlinga Stotram list, not a visiting order. Pins sit on the temple town. Outline: Natural Earth, public domain.

The same twelve, grouped for planning

A trip that hops between regions spends its days in transit. Each group sits in one part of the country, so a trip built inside one group spends less of its time travelling.

How to use this table

The No. column is each temple's place in the Dwadasha Jyotirlinga Stotram list. It is a hymn order, not a visiting order, and a trip can start from any of the twelve.

The season column shows the comfortable window. Eleven temples stay open all year, and the hill ones get crowded and wet in the monsoon, so October to March is the window this site plans around.

The twelve, as a set

One emblem per temple, each drawn from what makes that temple itself: the sea, the island, the peaks, the forest. They are here so the twelve can be told apart at a glance.
